TruMerit Receives 2025 Power of Associations Silver Award for its Work Promoting Ethical International Recruitment of Healthcare Professionals
(PHILADELPHIA, July 22, 2025) – TruMerit™ has been recognized with a Power of Associations Silver Award by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for its efforts to advance safe and ethical practices by firms that recruit internationally migrating nurses and other healthcare professionals.
The award honors TruMerit for responding to allegations that some firms were using unfair and deceptive practices amid increasing demand for foreign-educated nurses in the U.S. and the lack of government oversight of the international healthcare recruiting industry.
In 2008, TruMerit, then known as CGFNS International, rallied support from other healthcare stakeholders to create and publish the Voluntary Code of Ethical Conduct for the Recruitment of Foreign-Educated Nurses to the United States. They also established the Alliance for Ethical International Recruitment Practices, with an independent Advisory Board, to oversee the implementation of the Code.
The Alliance, now a division of TruMerit, has since launched the Certified Ethical Recruiter (CER) program, which enables international recruitment firms that actively recruit healthcare professionals to the U.S. to be evaluated and recognized for their commitment to fair, ethical, and transparent recruitment practices. Today there are 17 CERs, more than half of which have joined the program in the past four years.
“When they operate ethically, transparently, and use best practices, international recruitment firms perform an important role in supplying high-quality nurses to health systems in need of additional staffing support to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery. At the same time, it is essential to protect health professionals who have made the life-altering decision to migrate,” said Peter Preziosi, PhD, RN, CAE, TruMerit’s President and CEO.
“We are enormously proud of this important work and the positive impact it has had on advancing ethical recruitment and protecting migrating healthcare professionals, and we are thrilled to have it recognized by ASAE,” he added.
“Congratulations to TruMerit and the Alliance for exemplifying the impact associations have on the industries and professions they represent, and on society at large,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE. “It’s always so incredibly satisfying to see associations going above and beyond their everyday mission to change the world. We’re very proud to spotlight this award-winning initiative.”
